Books, books, books…

Disclaimer: if you follow me on Facebook or Goodreads this will be repeat info, but too good not to share!

I have been hibernating and READING!!

It has been a long cold winter with more snow than we get in 2  years just in the month of December!

I have read many books and have an entire bookshelf  of “to reads”!

Here are a few you really should not miss!!

4667024

This is an amazing book. I was lucky enough to read it around MLK Day and really had a lot to relate to it from my own background living in the south. I am always amazed how close and yet how far I am from the Segregation times. READ IT! The characters and places are so well written you feel you are there!

7937233

The Help and this one The Scent of Rain and Lightning were both picked for me in my book club. What great books. This one is a great mystery and you will never guess the end! DO NOT READ THE END FIRST!! It will be so much better to not know!

4666058

This book is amazing! It is written as a series of letters and you get to know the entire cast by the letters written by them. It has made everyone who read it want to sit and take up the lost art of letter writing!  From a quick “will you have dinner with me” to searches for long lost friends, this book is a funny and sweet story of England after WWII! I couldn’t have enjoyed it more!

7994902

This book I found at Target. It had a recommendation from Sarah Addison Allen, one of my most favorite author, so I bbought it! It is a wonderful , fictional, tale based on the people around Alice in Wonderland. The book is from the girl Alice’s point of view about her life and how the book and relationship with Luis Carroll made her life, not her own. It is a wonderful look at the Victorian era!

6723017

I finally finished this! It is a really great book, I just seemed to have more to read the entire time I was reading this. I finished it on 12/29! I was not going to the new year with it unfinished!! It is a wonderful story of three generations of women in a family and how this one garden brought them all together and finally to happiness. It is great with so many twists you cannot wait to find out which path it is going to take! I have one more by Kate Morton and have it on my to read shelf!!

4836308

This is my current read and as with all in this set is in different time periods you have to go back to go forward. The writing is well done and her description of the dialect in Massachusetts, you can hear it in the speech! Good considering I am from North Carolina! I am really enjoying it!! I hope to spend more time on it this week as the birthday celebrations are over!

I hope you try one or all of these and I hope you enjoy them half as much as I did!

Happy reading!

Out with the Old in with the New!!

661

I have thought about a lot of posts I would like to make. Long thoughtful ones where I go on and on about things that matter and sound like I know what I am talking about.

But when I think of 2010 and how I labeled it my year for change, some of it is hard to think about and is just sad, although it WAS change!!!

I am ending 2010 feeling, for the first time in 42 years, that I actually accomplished what I set out to do. It wasn’t a silly list of I won’t do this anymore or even a list of I need to do this. It was me changing and growing into a person I really LIKE! I am in a life situation I am very happy with.

In the scheme of things I lost very little when I see others loose so much, but there were great and wonderful times this year. New family members, serious illnesses being overcome, me releasing control over things that were making me crazy to try to control. Stresses being let go.

So I will leave you with a wish that you all, if you did not already, have the most rewarding, peaceful, and happy of new years. One like I did in 2010.

I look at 2011 as the second year in my new life and look forward to see how it can bring me more of the contentment I have found in my life. This is my Decade to shine!

Are you ready???

Honeslty what does that really mean? Ready for what the whole thing to be over? I have always been so deflated after Christmas, it is OVER, all the build up actually seems better than the day. And can you really be ready. Presents wrapped, food cooked, or did you throw a few gifts under the tree you found hidden in the closet when you went to get your good robe you are going to wear for the pictures, or if you forget, one of the 12 dishes you were going to make for Christmas dinner will it be that bad?

I don't hate Christmas, but really love the "Season" because it lasts longer. I have a mom that stress over all the "undone" things and then cannot enjoy any of it.

Please all my lovely friends don't stress it will all happen and it will be a memory of all that gathered and not really what was not done. Enjoy the moment and the time it will all be great, honestly letting go is hard especially for us women but how much nicer life is when you do.

So have the Happiest of Christmases and remember why we celebrate and it really puts all the hoopla in to perspective.
Merry Christmas

My room!! FINISHED!

I am sorry for the delay. We still don’t have our own internet and our borrowed connection is spotty at best Smile I have pictures of the rest of the house but took them when it wasn’t very “neat” Winking smile

For today it will be my room Smile

100_1276

My long dresser and my shelves, as you can see these were taken before Halloween Winking smile

100_1279

Tall dresser with cuddlies on top I love the soft colors I have used this time.

I will change the pulls on the dressers when I can find the ones I want.

100_1281

Better picture of my window and bears, my poor curtains, I have looked and looked but no where can I find the fabric to make more and  I haven’t found any I like better. Still looking.
